How to get your ride listed here
There's only one sure way to get your Tarwheels ride listed on this web site: submit your ride to the Ride Coordinator prior to the Ride Deadline. If you miss the deadline, please contact a Ride Coordinator to see if your ride can be added to the schedule. The Ride Coordinator will ask to have your ride listed on the web site. But there is no guarantee that the web site will be updated prior to the date of your ride. So please contact the Ride Coordinator prior to the Ride Deadline!

RIDE POLICIES

All rides are weather permitting. If it is raining or the temperature is below 45 degrees, do not expect the ride leader to appear. If in doubt, call the ride leader. Call the ride leader if you need directions to the starting location. Participants are considered to be on private excursion and thus must agree to hold harmless the ride leaders, the Carolina Tarwheels, Inc., and its officers and agents for injury or loss that might occur as a result of taking part in these rides. Helmets are required for all Tarwheel rides.

All cyclists are invited to participate in these rides. Riders must understand, though, that these rides are over public streets and highways and, thus, involve ordinary risk of accidents.

Times listed are departure times. Arrive early and be ready to go at the scheduled departure time.

There are three types of rides: Standard, Social and Training rides. The type of ride should be clearly indicated in the ride description. Definitions for the different types of rides are given below, along with definitions for some other important cycling terms.

DEFINITIONS

Social rides may be any pace, but very often are slower. The group pretty much stays together or regroups from time to time.

Standard rides may be a single pace or a combination of ride paces, A, B, C, and D (see below). Cue sheets are provided. Faster riders are welcome but the ride leader stays with the slowest person.

Training rides are generally faster paced. Cue sheets may or may not be provided, and the ride leader may not sweep the course.

Paceline:  Many faster rides, especially Training rides are ridden in a paceline. All cyclists are strongly encouraged to read the document Riding the Paceline before attempting to ride in a Tarwheels paceline. If you are new to riding in a paceline, the document is written in Stages, so you don't have to read and understand everything all at once.

Ride pace classifications: A 18+ mph; B 16-18 mph; C 13-15 mph; D 10-12 mph; Mtn mountain biking on trails (no pace).

Release and Waiver of Liability: Our insurance requires a liability waiver signed by each rider. Ride leaders will pass around a rider release form at the start of each ride. Riders should read and sign the form each time they participate in a ride.
